A bag is a bag is a bag but a bag with a unique brand, that is something else. Something that sets a piece apart for the individual who finds it with us and carries daily.

In the world of leather, brands are considered a flaw. Large scale production companies prefer leather that has been sanded down and painted up with layers upon layers. From day one, for me, it has been about the finding and featuring the character, the individuality.

That is my art. And it is impossible to mass-produce. In fact, it is difficult to produce even on a small scale. To train the eye and discernment between what constitutes art and what is merely a flaw. The line is thin.

So part of my art is taking those well-suited brand flaws and giving them some feature on the product we build. Matching up the right brand with the particular owner has always been a fascinating generator of good story.

The Sebrees came to visit the factory back in 2012. Kylle was thinking about having us make him a backpack. We looked at leathers, took a tour. That's how things worked back then. It was an investment. He was going to hold until the holidays. They were getting ready to leave when Justin - who had been pulling leathers for a new round of backpacks - came bounding down the stairs with one we had to see.

He rolled it out on the floor and we read the brand. Kylle said something to the effect that he believed this was the leather for his bag and so we built him a backpack. I like the way we were able to place the brand subtly just inside the flap as a reminder but not something with which to beat onlookers over the head. It seemed - in my new knowing of Kylle - a perfect fit. ⠀

We saw the bag a few years ago for a recondition. ⠀
Still going strong, the bag is aging beautifully. ⠀

I learned way early on that I cannot promise to look for brands for a customer build. The magic of a heart or a pyramid or a whale or a butterfly or TX or RN or even GOD deliver themselves at the right moment for the right person much like Kylle's.
