Seven by Gary Griffin

by Gary Griffin

From his "Gravity" series.

These paintings, known as the "Gravity Series", are inspired by the stacked rocks or "Cairns" that are used to mark hiking trails, and to communicate with fellow travelers.

Using a sparse language of color and organic shape, the artist is telling a story in the most elemental way possible.

Size : 12"w x 16" h

The art is painted on a custom moose canvas made in Buda, Texas. It is clear primed so that the raw canvas becomes elemental to the experience of the piece and is then suspended in a floater frame.

Gary Griffin is a native Texan, photographer, and painter who was born and raised in the Houston Heights area. His aesthetic tends to feature fleeting moments and evaporating vignettes that mark the passage of time.

Cityscapes in transition, weather-worn remnants of days gone by, and unspoken stories often inform his work.

Gary has had several photography shows over the last 7 years, the latest being "Bad Intentions on Telephone Road" at Redbud Gallery, where he focused on the cantinas and underbelly of one of Houston's most notorious streets.

In addition photography, he also paints and is currently working on a series of minimalist abstract paintings inspired by his road trips across Texas.
